Take Your Church to the Movies

Sometimes, perspectives from Hollywood and independent films can open avenues for understanding, then bring light to spiritual themes in our culture. Now there is public discussion from a biblical viewpoint. A new movie "concordance" is being compiled to document scenes from movies that serve as comparative texts in relation to Bible passages and spiritual themes.

At TextWeek you will find movie reviews of "not necessarily Christian" movies by spiritually minded scholars. You can do your own research by movie title or movie themes indexes. Or you may join a discussion, comment on various movies, or contribute a suggestion for the concordance.

Many churches are creatively using movie clips in worship and church education. With an umbrella site license from the Motion Picture Licensing Corporation, you can show movies and movie clips legally to your congregation or group. This site may help you study postmodern culture, and find ways to interact with it. (Also at this site you'll find an art concordance and a scripture index.)

As Christians, we can use contemporary movies to wrestle with the dominant themes of our culture, become conscious of the way those themes are portrayed, and perhaps even discover deeper spiritual understanding. So let's take the church to the movies!
